Present perfect continuous

I - The form:

Have + been + veb + ing.
It  is composed of the present perfect ofthe verb to be + the presnt participle of the verb.

Ex: To live

   Affirmative                                                 Negative

I have been living                                   I have not been living
You have been living                             You have not been living
He has been living                                 He has not been living
She has been living                               She have not been living
It has been living                                   It has not been living
We have been living                              We have not been living
You have been living                             You have not been living
They have been living                            They have not been living

Form:
  • Affirmative  : Subject + Have been + Present pariciple of verb.
  • Negative     :  Subject + Have not been + Present pariciple of verb.
  • Interrogative: Have + Subject + been + Present participle of verb.
II- Uses:
The present perfect continuous is used:
  • To describe part events which are connected to the present.
  • To emphasize that the event is recent.
Ex: - You look tired, what have you been doing.
      - I have been plying tennis.
  • To emphasize that an action is temporary.
Ex: - I have been studying with my sister for the last two weeks.
  • To emphasize the lengh of time of an action.
Ex: - I have been sleeping all day.
  • To describe acontinuing action.
Ex: - Jack has been studying English for 2 years.
  • For repeated action.
Ex: - She has been trying to contact him but in Vain.
